Sean grew up in Bed-Stuy Brooklyn to a teenage mother and absentee father. He was lovingly reared by his grandmother who planted the seeds of hard work and the ability to dream. During his younger years, he maintained the family home and other properties his family owned. Having these responsibilities during his formative years was instrumental in developing his keen sense of business.
Sean became a caregiver when his grandmother fell ill, offering her the loving care she so readily provided him. At 19, Sean’s world would be forever changed with the birth of his daughter Shawanda.
Upon the death of his grandmother, Sean found himself alone and with a child to provide for when a chance opportunity presented itself sending Sean into a life of fast money. Always the businessman, Sean learned how to expand and grow as a hustler, earning millions of dollars way before it was an Instagram moment.
After 10 years of hustling, Sean was arrested and sentenced to 36 months in the Federal Prison system for counterfeiting government instruments. It was this experience that transformed his life forever. It started when the sentencing judge came from behind the bench to shake his hand during the sentencing and spoke candidly to Sean explaining that the sentence did not have to be the end of his life and encouraged him to start over. The judges exact words were; “You are way too intelligent to throw your life way. You were dealt a bad hand and society failed you. There is still time for you to take control of your destiny”.
From that moment Sean knew he desired more out of life and it was up to him to create it. After his release from prison, Sean came home with the intention of becoming an attorney. Life had other plans for him. He started working in nonprofit in 2003 and never looked back. He's worked every facet of a community organization, starting as a peer and going on to become the Director of Programs.
Sean used the seeds of his grandmother to visualize and create the life he wanted. Sean is married to his beautiful wife Janai, and has one daughter. He is a husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend and enjoys his role as the patriarch of the family and lovingly called “pop” by his brother and daughter.
